I am considering using Superior Walls precast concrete walls above grade on my next build.
On my last build, I Superior Walls for a daylight basement. We added pigment to the mix to give it an earth-tone color and broom finished the exterior; we also applied concrete sealer. It looked somewhat like a stucco finish. We added extra insulation on the inside, and a little extra insulation on the exterior of the slab / wall base (to provide a thermal break). This got us to Net Zero Ready certification.
The pros of precast are: 1) one and done walls; 2) excellent air seal; 3) bug proof; 4) reasonable cost, if you account for exterior finishes and insulate / finish the interior. The cons are: 1) You had better not make a mistake when you are ordering the pieces!; 2) exterior faces can get dinged during installation; 3) awkward for wiring; 4) the joints between the wall sections are notice-able.
Overall, I liked the system, and am considering it for use above grade in zone 4 (MD). Has anyone else seen, tried, or considered Superior Walls above grade? All comments are welcome.
