Seasonal landscaping ideas – GreenBuildingAdvisor

We moved into our house 18 months ago, which is one of many in the neighborhood with the same floor plan. Each of these homes has a living room floor that cantilevers over the basement concrete wall, extending about 30″ by 10′. I’ve noticed that some of the other houses around here have landscaped this cantilevered area with retaining walls and created garden beds underneath and around it. While it’s not something I’d consider a great idea, it does look nice because it hides the fact that the floor is cantilevered. I’m not sure why all these houses were built this way, but it was the 1980, and I’m sure people didn’t put too much thought into things like that back then. thanks
