Should the roof ridge be cut the entire length of the ridge? If I take the square footage of the attic floor and balance the ventilation using 1:300, I come up with a length that is only partial the length of the ridge line. Do I cut only the amount found following the ratio, or do I cut the entire ridge and then balance the intake? I have so much ridge line that I do not think I can balance the intake with the entire ridge cut.
I think the confusion comes from the word “continuous” used to described the actual ridge vent being always open to air. That does not describe spatially the need to cut open and vent the entire ridge.
Am I correct to cut only a portion of the ridge? Should I then choose a vent product with a NFA that would allow me to maximize the length of ridge that gets vented? Or is it ok to cut open just portions of the ridge with a higher NFA vent. I’m concerned we will create dead spots.
