What is your favorite material for slab edge insulation, for a concrete slab on grade, with the insulation around the exterior edge?

Also, how do you prefer to finish/protect it?

For reference I’ve included a detail from the GBA collection.

Here are some relevant issues you may want to touch on –

Protection from abrasion, bumping, lawnmowers, etc.

Termites, carpenter ants, and other pests

Issues regarding moisture absorption for different materials

Longevity concerns

Material preferences based on environmental concerns

I’m not mentioning climate zones because I’m hoping the knowledge shared here will be worth considering for a person in any climate zone who faces choices regarding slab edge insulation.
