Planning belly band / ledger for future deck – GreenBuildingAdvisor

I’m working on a siding project this year to replace old Vinyl with wood siding from a local supplier. The house is a 1.5 story, built in the 1940s with true dimension 2×4 framing and 1″ board sheathing. Climate zone 5B.
I’m planning to use 8″ horizontal siding for the majority of the house and use reverse board and batten for the gables. The sections will be separated by a belly band where the gables begin. I will be adding new WRB and 1×4 rainscreen before new siding.
I plan to use a 2×8 as the belly band attached over the vertical rainscreen, attached with lag screws to studs and Z flashing above. Can this board be used as the ledger board of a future ground-supported 2nd story deck? Or, would it be better to just use 1×8 trim piece and replace it with 2×8 PT when the deck project comes around?
Thanks!
