Climate zone is 6B, south-central MN. Due to building layout & the desire to not see the condenser from inside the house, the location will be on the north side of the house, which I understand is not ideal. Currently there is full exposure there with no wind break from trees.
In the attached picture the planned mount is shown which is made of galvanized strut channel and a concrete pad. A 2nd course will be added to the retaining wall around the house, the inside will be filled with clean rock, and the condenser mount will be lifted into place on top of the rock.
What orientation is best? A Mitsubishi manual recommended flipping the unit 180 degrees and installing it behind a secondary wind break in high wind environments. However many neighbors have their units mounted in standard orientation on the north face of their houses.
Planning to use the mini split as a primary heat source and want good and reliable performance. Is it worth building a windbreak from a standard fence with privacy blanket or something similar? What orientation?
