Climate zone 4A: I am nearing the end of a major kitchen renovation. Pre-renovation, one of the two HVAC supply vents blew directly under the kitchen sink base and out a cutout in the toe kick.
It is my understanding that this placement of a supply is less than desirable, but a local HVAC contractor suggested that’s about the best place in this situation and I’m not sure where else in the room it could be relocated to.
To attempt to improve this situation and try to eliminate a mold concern, my plan is to plumb in a pre-fab toe kick box. I will tape all the seems of that box with foil tape. I will then wrap the box in 3/4” EPS foam. The cabinet installer will make a cut out in the toe kick.
1) Does anyone see any problems with this plan? 2) I have 3/4” unfaced EPS; is that sufficient or should that be a vapor barrier like foil facing on the exterior side? Thank you for any input.
