Insect screening / Everlast siding – GreenBuildingAdvisor

Hello! We are getting ready to install siding and are going to use the Everlast Board and Batten product. It has a (small) integrated rainscreen of about 1/8″ (20mm), and we are pairing that with HydroGap for a little bit of additional drainage. While we would have loved a full-on rainscreen, it was not going to happen with our builder. We are not planning to have a bottom trim board or anything, and instead just have the siding terminate “loose” at the bottom. We have sealed the bottom of the zip to the concrete with liquid flash all the way around the house (and also sealed the stud cavities on the inside). Is the ~1/8″ gap small enough that I don’t need to worry about putting some sort of screening at the bottom? I was planning to use (non-creased) folded over screen of some sort stapled to the wall prior to siding, but reading here it seems like if my gap is about 1/8″, any bugs that can get up under that will be able to get in elsewhere (like around the corner pieces, or window/door J or whatever). We can certainly do it, but if we’re instead just adding something that will get blocked with bugs and dirt and so forth and impede drainage in the long run, maybe it’s not worth it? Thanks so much!!
