Members of the Group of Seven have agreed to release 100 million barrels from energy reserves through the International Energy Agency (IEA) to address fuel supply pressures.
The release will take place over four months, with substantial diesel volumes scheduled for the first 20 days. Members and partner countries will also consider further diesel releases if needed.
The agreement includes coordinating refinery maintenance to avoid overlapping shutdowns and temporarily increasing processing rates where feasible. The group also called for discussions with other countries with significant refining capacity to increase output, particularly diesel.
The IEA has been asked to track implementation and assess the measures’ effects on energy supply and market conditions.
A follow-up report should be delivered in less than 20 days, and is expected to include recommendations for future responses and replenishing reserves.
