Extending 2nd-story subfloor over stairwell – GreenBuildingAdvisor

Hi all, my 2nd story floorplan calls for a closet that extends over the stairwell (drawing below). The code-required 6’8” headroom makes it so that a dropped joist won’t fit here to support this part of the subfloor. So I’m assuming I’ll need to use a joist on top of the framing, but I’m not sure how this would connect and support the subfloor. Wondering if anyone has experience with this sort of thing?
The subfloor consist of 2×10 exposed decking, with 1/2” plywood glued/screwed on top.
