I want to make a 2.25″ x 6.5″ cut through the bottom plate of a partition wall to run two 3″ Comfoflex tubes down to the lower level (see red highlighted area in the first and second images, to the right of the stud). The wall sits perpendicular to the trusses below (see green lines in first image). In the third image you can see the wall isn’t holding up anything (the wall register is where the comfoflex tubes terminate).
Is this safe and ok code-wise?
I’m planning to achieve this with a 3″ hole saw and a multi-tool. I will put two long screws on either side of the cut to ensure the bottom plate is anchored on both sides.
Am I missing anything?
