Bottom plate to rim joist connection requirements – GreenBuildingAdvisor

Hello,

I live in Virginia, and we are currently on an adapted version of the 2021 IRC. I know that this is a rookie question, but the fastening requirements of Chapter 6 are throwing me for a loop, specifically the bottom plate to rim joist connection. I am using 3″ x .131 nails and it says 4-3″x.131 nails at 16″ O.C. face nailed. Am I supposed to put 4 nails through the bottom plate and into the rim joist at 16″ O.C.? Again, I know this is a simple question, but for some reason I am just not understanding what it is saying. Thanks in advance!
