1919 house to vent or not – GreenBuildingAdvisor

We bought this house last year. We noticed a lot of granule loss from the roof and I’ve been doing research about that. It is mostly on the South side. I haven’t had it inspected yet but seems that it might be due to the attic not being sufficiently ventilated and/or the heat of the south side. However, I keep seeing mixed things about that being significant or not. Also, our second story bedroom is often hotter than the others – for context’ eaves closet of the south side roof and window in wall facing west. The attic has some insulation and it appears to have ridge vents, but there is not intake – except maybe the horribly holey wood shingles on the gable of the west wall.
