I am currently working on the thermal envelope design for a train maintenance workshop and have some doubts regarding the perimeter insulation strategy at ground floor level.
The building includes both conditioned and unconditioned spaces (mainly storage areas) located on the ground floor. I am trying to determine where perimeter insulation should be placed and have identified three possible approaches:
- Option 1: Insulate the entire building footprint perimeter (green).
- Option 2: Insulate only the perimeter between conditioned and unconditioned spaces (blue).
- Option 3: Insulate only the perimeter of the conditioned spaces, including any external edges of those spaces (red).
From both an energy performance and heat loss perspective, which approach would be the most appropriate?
Have you encountered a similar situation in industrial or workshop buildings? If so, what strategy did you adopt and why?
Thanks in advance for your help.
