Hi All
My build just started. General wall composition is drywall, 2″x6″ studs, 1/2″ Zip, 3″ Rockwool, rainscreen, siding (brick, steel and fiber cement at different places). At the top of basement foundation walls, there are three beams sitting in beam pockets. The beams and bottom plates got put in today, but the beams are longer than needed, are at a couple places are projecting out of the wall. These are places of brick ledge, and have no external insulation.
What is the solution? How difficult is cutting the projection involved, and what is the general rule for filling the space around it? Can we cut it flush, and can I finish outside with some small thickness thermal break?
Goal is for a very air tight, and insulated home. I cannot afford this thermal bridge.
Thanks in advance.
