I’m framing an addition where the largest floor span is about 8 feet. According to the span tables, 2×8 at 24″ on center is totally fine for this. But I’ve heard some people say that 24″ on center is a bad idea for floor joists, independent of span, because the plywood feels squishy between them.
Is this really true if I use 23/32 OSB T&G glued decking? I can make it 16 on center for an extra-super-overkill floor, but just wondering if 24 on center is really a problem.
