Using house wrap to partially cover a wall – GreenBuildingAdvisor

The cedar shingles on a significant portion of the south and west facades of our ~100-year-old two-story house in Climate Zone 5A (Eastern Massachusetts) need replacing. The thing is, the top several courses on the second floor are in good shape, protected by a generous roof overhang. Similarly, in some places the upper courses of shingles on the first floor are also in decent shape (some were replaced ~15 years ago).
My instinct is to install a self-adhered house wrap over the 1″ board sheathing where we re-shingle, but I would greatly welcome expert thoughts about the potential risk that would pose. For example, if liquid water got behind the shingles w/o house wrap above them, how likely is that it may cause problems behind the house wrap below even though the wrap is vapor open? Would it be more problematic to put house wrap over the lower ~half of the second floor in areas where the upper portion of the first floor below would not have house wrap? (there’s a ~1″ architectural ~skirt between the floors).
I would welcome any practical experience and insights that people can share – thanks!
p.s. The wall cavity is filled with blown cellulose.
