Zone 6A. I’m wondering if there is any reason I can’t install GP Forcefield over old board sheathing that has asphalt siding attached to it. I’d like to use forcefield so I can create an air barrier. Also, the old cladding would be extremely labor intensive to remove. The sheathing and cladding is 1.75″ thick and seems to be structurally sound. I would be fastening the ForceField through to the rough sawn 2×4 studs.
The end result retrofit assembly would be…
1/2″ drywall
4″ rough sawn 2×4 stud cavity with R15 Rockwool
1.75″ old board sheathing + old asphalt siding
7/16″ GP ForceField taped as primary WRB
2″ polyiso foam (two one inch layers staggered, outer layer taped)
3/4″ rainscreen 1×4 strapping
